What is the DBS Update Service?

We offer this online service is to help subscribers to keep their DBS certificates up to date and also allow employers to check a DBS certificate online if they need to.

With a fee of £13 a year, having access to this information is affordable and can be incredibly useful, no matter the industry or role that is being considered.

How does subscription work?

In most cases, when applying via the DBS, employees can join the Update Service for both standard and enhanced checks from the moment they apply, using their application number (this can be found on the application form itself).

They can also subscribe once they have received their documentation using the certificate number, although it’s important to note that this will need to be done within 30 days of the date of issue (which can be found on the certificate).

Who can apply for the DBS Update Service?

There’s aren’t many restrictions or requirements in place, so signing up can be simple for anybody hoping to have easier access to their security check information (as applicants who apply for a DBS check and those who receive their certificate can both subscribe).

It’s worth noting that there is certain information that will be required to fill out the application for subscription, but most of this will be standard in nature and should be easy to access, like name, date of birth and DBS certificate number.

It’s important that personal details of the account match those that are on the certificate if employees want the application to go through without any issue, so be sure that everything is present and correct. Once this is sent off, the payment will be taken and the subscription will begin (from the certificate’s date of issue).

For standard and enhanced checks, an employee won’t be able to send their own form and will need a potential employer or the organisation that they work for to send it off for them.
