What Are List 99 Checks?

While offered by the DBS, a List 99 Check is separate from an ordinary check from the Disclosure & Barring Service that can be crucial for any educational institute to have, to find out if a person they’re considering hiring is legally permitted to work in a school environment.

What is a List 99 check?

Can you apply for one?

• Be a registered foster carer and/or childminder

• Be a professional in providing relevant personal care, or least be supervised by an expert
• Be able to carry out a number of unsupervised activities, such as:
  • Training and/or instructing
  • Teaching
  • Caring for, or supervising children

In general, all you’ll need to do is provide a few simple pieces of information, like the full name and date of birth of the employee you’re running the check on, to be able to see if they’re on the list.
