List 99 Check
We can provide a List 99 Check for £12.
What Are List 99 Checks?
While offered by the DBS, a List 99 Check is separate from an ordinary check from the Disclosure & Barring Service that can be crucial for any educational institute to have, to find out if a person they’re considering hiring is legally permitted to work in a school environment.
Although it is a separate entity to the standard DBS checks, it can be requested independently, but you’ll need to meet specific criteria before you can apply.
What is a List 99 check?
This form of verification, more commonly known as the Children’s Barred List Check, can give educational institutes (from nurseries to colleges) the chance to look through the DBS database to see if there are any possible matches for a person who is on the Children’s Barred List – which is essentially the DBS’ record of people who are not permitted to work with children.
This is something that is important for most schooling establishments for several reasons, and while it can help an applicant to make a better informed decision when it comes to recruiting a new staff member, you should know that it’s not necessarily a comprehensive check against the Children’s Barred List, and it shouldn’t be used to replace an Enhanced DBS check.
Can you apply for one?
While there is a fee and a few requirements that need to be met in order for a person to be able to check if an employee is on the list, it’s often not too difficult for someone in an educational or child-caring profession to apply for one. In order to get the check on List 99, an applicant must:
- Be a registered foster carer and/or childminder
- Work for particular establishments, like schools or children’s homes, which can be easily contacted
- Be a professional in providing relevant personal care, or least be supervised by an expert
- Be able to carry out a number of unsupervised activities, such as:
- Training and/or instructing
- Teaching
- Caring for, or supervising children
In general, all you’ll need to do is provide a few simple pieces of information, like the full name and date of birth of the employee you’re running the check on, to be able to see if they’re on the list. In most cases, it can take around 24 hours to get the results, which you’re likely to get in email form (making it fast and easily accessible to a variety of people).
